And Mum receives more knitwear

The last time Mum visited me and the sister up north she mentioned with her usual ‘brick to the face’ subtlety that she really liked my take on the Age of Brass and Steam shawl, and that she could have one of those… ok Mum message received! Plans for the upcoming Mother’s Day were underway…

Because of spring descending I decided to have a go at making this one in DK rather than the Aran that my original one was made in. Other than that I followed the same formula.

This yarn is Wendy’s Pixile in Blue… of course. I’ve never used this one before, and it was the softness of it which pulled me in while browsing my local yarn store. It really is such a gorgeous yarn… it is 100% acrylic, but it’s a very high quality acrylic… no squeaks here. And it actually drapes really well. I liked it so much I went and bought myself a couple of balls in the maroon colour.

The little flecks of white in it look really lovely too, not too busy but a bit more interesting than a plain blue.

As far as it goes there’s not much to say about this version, it came out in the same crescent using up two balls. The only thing that’s different is that I ran out of yarn before I could do that last row of eyelets, which meant that the picot cast off is following stockinette. I prefer having the eyelets there but it’s still lovely.

And I know what you’re all wondering… does mum like it?! Well I received this photo almost as soon as she’d opened it…

Her selfie skills are improving… she’s stopped looking nervous in them all now. Hope all the mums out there had a lovely day (even though round here the clocks all jumped forward depriving us of an hour in bed!!).
